A quality robot vacuum can make a big difference in keeping allergens like pet hair and dust under control. However, not all models are equal.

If you're looking to purchase pet-friendly features in your vacuum or just a great robot to enhance your existing vacuum, there's many alternatives.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge, the latest model in Eufy’s budget series of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most current model. It's a glossy black model with rose-gold and blue accents that resemble an iPhone. It's more user-friendly than previous models and has features like BoostIQ which automatically increases suction to ensure better cleaning of all surfaces. It also employs intelligent navigation to avoid repeating the same area over and over, an issue that is common with bounce-navigation systems that are simpler.

It does a great job picking up pet hair, crumbs and dust from hard floors, Efficient Shark AI Robot Vacuum With Smart Mapping but isn't as effective as the top models when it comes to getting rid of dust from carpet. In our tests the G30 Edge missed 74% of the dust on hard floors, and 26 percent on carpet, which is disappointing.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map your home using an electronic map. This lets it keep track of the rooms it has cleaned previously and prevents it from returning to those areas which is a major problem with other robots that require the use of magnetic tape to define zones that aren't allowed.

The G30 Edge also has other advantages. It comes with an "Find My Robot" mode that plays loud music until it is located and a directional keypad that lets you move the robot. It also has a built-in auto return function that sends it back to its charging base if the battery is empty, an important safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape robotic is a powerful machine with a long list of smart features. It can clean bare floors with ease and climb up carpets with high piles effortlessly. The app comes with advanced features such as boundary lines and remote access to the robot while it is in operation and a host of other options.

This model is the most recent in the long-running line of Neato robots. It has a distinctive "D shape when seen from above. The design offers a number of advantages such as an improved corner cleaning system and a bigger dust bin than the majority of models. The D-shape design allows the robot to reach under furniture better than those with a circular shape.

The D-Shape will briefly pause before beginning a cleaning cycle using a spinning infrared camera to assess and scan the area. It will then begin to clean by grid pattern by moving in a logical manner from one area to the next until the floor is completely covered. This method of cleaning is much more effective and thorough than the random approach employed by some competitors.

The design of the D-Shape allows it to have a large 700ml dust bin, compared to 400-600ml for robots with similar prices. That increased capacity means you'll have to empty the dust bin less often, which will save your time and effort. The D-Shape also features a flat front side that helps it navigate around obstacles such as chairs and tables. In our tests, we observed that the D-Shape sat under a four-legged stool, and also underneath an electrical cord that was exposed. However it was able to get out of the way each time.

3. Roomba i3+ EV

The Roomba EVO i3+ is a great option for pet owners. It does well on hard floors and does a great job of removing the traces of cereal, rice, and hair of pets. It struggles a little bit on carpet but is still superior to other robots in this price range. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also extremely Efficient Shark AI Robot Vacuum with Smart Mapping at moving between floor kinds and doesn't get caught on transitions like older generations can. The dual multi-surface brushes flex and adapt to different flooring types. They also aren't able to tangle pet hair.

The i3+ EVO's obstacle avoidance isn't as strong as the other robots we evaluated, and it repeatedably ran into objects in our tests such as handbags shoes and pet toys before continuing on its path. It also had trouble dealing with coarse kosher salt that it blew over and around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO includes a number of great features to make it worth the extra cost compared to other Roomba models, such as the ability to empty the dustbin automatically and advanced control through the app. It is possible to schedule cleaning and set up custom routines. You can also set up zones that prohibit the robot from entering certain areas. Its intelligent scheduling can even suggest additional cleaning during allergy season and according to the routine you follow. Its navigation system isn't reliable and can cause vacuums to be erratic patterns like zigzags or diagonals instead of parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty XL

The Shark AI Self-Empty XL is less expensive than many other robots we've reviewed and yet comes with advanced features such as mapping and an automatic self-emptying trash bin which holds a decent amount of dust. It was able to clean and maneuver well in a home which had a mix of carpeting with low pile, bare floors, and a combination of both. The vacuum does an excellent job of removing pet hair on carpeting. However it's not as powerful much power as our top picks.

The Roborock S4 Max, however is more durable, recharges much faster than the Shark and comes with a wider selection of automation capabilities and scheduling options and support for "no-go zones". We'd still recommend the Shark when you're looking to buy something cheaper, or in the event that you prefer using your mobile phone for control and monitoring instead of a remote that is specifically designed for it.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry & Wet

This robot is capable of both vacuuming and mopping. The two-tank system used by this robot lets it mop or vacuum at the touch of one button. In our tests it was able easily switch between surfaces and was excellent at picking up pet fur from carpets and hardwood floors. It also features an edge-sweeping tool to remove cat hair from walls and baseboards, plus the ability to schedule it to your schedule.

This robot is a great choice if you are seeking a model that is inexpensive and has a few extra features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease during our testing and can be controlled with an app or voice. It even supports scheduled cleanings and has a large trash bin to capture messes before they become full. The only drawback is that it could take up to 166 minutes to finish its job however that's still much better than most other robots we've evaluated.

The front-facing camera of this robot allows you to check the cleanliness of your home's cleanliness by using a map app. It's especially helpful when you're looking for a specific item or if your children spill glitter from your Christmas decorations all over your floors. It will save you a lot frustration by locating that lost item right away. Furthermore the battery that is fade-free can last up to 130 minutes on a single charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 is an elegant robot that can provide solid cleaning. It does a great job maneuvering its self and can move under furniture without becoming stuck. It also struggles to pick up pet hair on any surface.

Despite the 694's limited feature set however, it still performs better than most of the competition. It scored a perfect 10 in our test of cereal carpet, and passed our cat litter test with only a couple of scattered pieces. It's not as effective on hardwood floors, though. The side brush can scatter large pieces of cereal that cling to the floor instead of vacuuming them. It also had trouble collecting table salt on a bare flooring, as many grains fell across the floor.

It supports app control via the iRobot HOME app as well as voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, sold separately). It learns your cleaning habits and provides you with a personalized schedule. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure it gets into difficult-to-access corners. Dirt Detect sensors alert it to areas that are heavily soiled. It has a dustbin that automatically emptys, and it has a battery life of around 60 minutes. The pricier iRobot j7 has a more sophisticated set of features and is better on all surfaces. It is also more robust, has a larger dustbin, can charge faster and is able to navigate obstacles like electrical cords better.
